PhenomUK Secures Major Investment for the Future of UK Agriculture

A Landmark Moment for UK Plant Science and Food Security

We’re proud to announce a major milestone for PhenomUK — a £35.4 million investment through the UKRI Infrastructure Fund, led by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).

PhenomUK represents a coordinated effort to secure the UK’s long-term food supply in the face of growing global challenges. By establishing a national research and innovation infrastructure — spanning crop growth stages from seed to field — PhenomUK will dramatically enhance our ability to measure plant performance in realistic environments and at scale.

Building on strong foundations

This programme builds on the success of the UK Plant and Crop Phenotyping Infrastructure preliminary activity and the PhenomUK Technology Touching Life network — strengthening collaboration across academia, industry, and innovation partners.

This is more than an investment in infrastructure — it’s an investment in resilience, sustainability, and the future of food.
